David set up Core Associates in 2007 and is responsible for the practice ongoing strategic direction. He has worked at Director level since 1998 and has always maintained a hands-on approach to the design and delivery of projects alongside advisory appointments in the public and private sectors.
 
He was previously a Regional Director for HLM Architects for 8 years before setting up and developing a large and successful Glasgow based architects office for Capita. David has comprehensive experience across all building types and procurement routes where leading and co-ordinating multi-disciplinary design teams is critical to successful delivery. This input has included work from inception stage through to completion on major projects across the UK.
 
David has extensive experience working in an advisor capacity as a consultant to Health Facilities Scotland on various initiatives and including procurement, design and technical guidance along with advising project teams on projects across Scotland. This advisory work has led to further commissions for HFS setting up Frameworks Scotland 1 and 2, supporting the DoH on the P21+ and P22 initiatives and developing consultant and contractor frameworks for the Scottish Court Service. Wider ranging consultancy roles include a variety of interesting commissions facilitating stakeholder events, working with Construction Scotland, Wellspring (hub West) and hub North.

What do you most like to do when you are not working?

Spend time with family and friends.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Always surround yourself with good people that make you look good

What’s one of your favourite memories?

Standing on a remote beach watching a beautiful West Coast sunset after what felt like 2 weeks of constant rain one summer holiday.

What’s one thing about you that surprises people?

Different people are surprised by different things. Though I am a junior rugby coach which I blame my youngest son for!

If you had a time machine, what advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Don’t study architecture! haha

Imagining a limitless budget to buy my dream cars while I browse on autotrader
