Commonwealth Games, Birmingham

The Birmingham Games involved approximately 6,500 athletes and team officials from 72 nations and territories in a 12-day celebration of sport and culture. Events took place across Birmingham and the West Midlands, entertaining more than one million ticketed spectators and reaching a global broadcast audience of more than one billion.

We worked directly with the Organising Committee in the planning stages, working closely with the Overlay Cluster Managers. We also provided the Health and Safety review of several venues including setting up the risk management drawings and registers.

We undertook a peer review of venues which encompassed buildability and commodity reviews. During the venue build and during Games time, we worked directly with the Organising Committee providing site support for the installation of Arena Overlay and Games time site overlay management. When it was all over, we provided site support for the de-rig of the Overlay and venue re-instatement.

Our Turnkey supplier support included the co-ordination of the statutory approvals process for 2 of the 3 venue clusters. We were involved in reviewing turnkey suppliers proposals for key venues, the submission of statutory approvals and the co-ordination of responses with local authorities. We also conducted site reviews and inspections to obtain approvals.
