The Core Skills for Event Overlay

Most of our Core Skills are put to work when our team members provide Event Overlay support for Organising Committees of large-scale world events like the European Championships and the major international Games in Glasgow and Birmingham.

WHAT IS OVERLAY?

Every event needs additional Overlay to ensure the existing venue infrastructure and event spaces are compliant and fit for purpose for that specific event. We have the Core Skills necessary to help transform venues into effective, efficient and vibrant event facilities capable of successfully handling major world-class events.

Core Associates’ overlay service employs our Core Skills to support the venue’s temporary infrastructure including marquees, shelters, huts, tents, cabins, power, utilities, fencing, flooring, lighting, wayfaring, signage and Field of Play equipment.

WHAT WE DID IN BIRMINGHAM

The Birmingham Games involved approximately 6,500 athletes and team officials from 72 nations and territories in a 12-day celebration of sport and culture. Events took place across Birmingham and the West Midlands, entertaining more than one million ticketed spectators and reaching a global broadcast audience of more than one billion.

We worked directly with the Organising Committee in the planning stages, working closely with the Overlay Cluster Managers. We also provided the Health and Safety review of several venues including setting up the risk management drawings and registers.

We undertook a peer review of venues which encompassed buildability and commodity reviews.  We also reviewed all turnkey supplier proposals.

During the venue build and during Games time, we worked directly with the Organising Committee providing site support for the installation of Arena Overlay and Games time site overlay management. When it was all over, we provided site support for the de-rig of the Overlay and venue re-instatement.

Our Turnkey supplier support included the co-ordination of the statutory approvals process for 2 of the 3 venue clusters. We were involved in reviewing turnkey suppliers proposals for key venues, the submission of statutory approvals and the co-ordination of responses with local authorities. We also conducted site reviews and inspections to obtain approvals.

Our Core Skills, aligned thinking, varied experience and depth of knowledge across the team enable us to offer a service tailored to fit the needs of each client’s specific project requirements.

We are proud of our team and the relationships we’ve built with event organisers, venues, and local authorities over the years. We understand that every situation is unique and, through aligned thinking, we strive to provide a bespoke service that is flexible for each and every client and event.
