The Wisp, Midlothian
Core Associates carried out work on this exciting masterplan which includes an 80 bed care home, sheltered housing and supported retirement housing. The development also includes a neighbourhood centre.
The scale of development at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary site and adjacent Bio Quarter is vast. NHS Lothian’s aspirations of having the Edinburgh Royal campus recognised as a world leader in healthcare excellence, is supported by the development of the Bio Quarter. This is a key driver for the development of the Wisp site which straddles the boundary between Edinburgh City Council and Midlothian Council.
The proposed development effectively creates employment within both Council’s as the Care Home and Sheltered Housing is currently proposed within Midlothian and the Retirement Village with Neighbourhood Centre is currently proposed within the City of Edinburgh. In these difficult times, sustainable, employment creating and economic development should gain the right type and level of political support. It is likely that the scale of development proposed will require full public consultation.
