GallowgateStudent Residential Feasibility
Mixed Use Block, Gallowgate, Glasgow
This project involved the redevelopment of an existing gap site in the Gallowgate area of Glasgow. The scheme proposed the development of a mixed use residential block to fit within the existing city fabric.
The conceptual idea behind the scheme was to allow for breaking the historical city block and allowing movement to flow through it. This lead to two buildings providing the street frontage along with an internal courtyard that allowed the connection between the two streets.
There were two elevational treatments explored in this project. The street elevations had deep window openings that would allow for light internally but control the view in. The internal elevations would have much larger openings and with a softer material palette it would strengthen the concept of breaking through the city block.
